Great read about the worst week a President could have.
What a week.
Military leaders announced they were ignoring Trump's transgender ban as tweeting out major policy changes is ridiculous. Or words to that effect.
Police brass announced that regardless of Trump's urging them to rough up suspects, law enforcement officers are to continue following the law and standard police procedures.
The Boy Scouts gave him a public scolding for his inappropriate remarks at the Jamboree.
This is on top of The Mooch's salty comments on his coworkers.
For those who don't have the tie to read the entire article, I've taken the liberty of listing some of the key points.
The POTUS has been "openly attacking his own attorney general for not subverting the rule of law."
"subjected to the spectacle of the president going to the Boy Scout jamboree, of all places, and delivering a series of partisan jabs, campaign-rally catcalls, and completely inappropriate personal ramblings to a crowd of thousands of boys."
"In a flash a sociopathic indifference to the lives of thousands of patriots currently serving their country and contempt for the regular rules and procedures of the military he supposedly commands" and without even informing let alone consulting the Secretary of Defense or the Pentagon, Trump tweeted a significant change in military policy.
Senator Orrin Hatch, of all people, rushed to the defense of transgender troops. In a rare bit of sanity in midst of all this madness, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs announced that such policy changes don't happen via twitter.
Who knew?
For a bit of comic relief, Trump's new Director of Communications called up a reporter (Ryan Lizza of The New Yorker) and "threatened to fire the entire White House staff if Lizza didn’t reveal the identity of a source."
Scaramucci also declared that the president’s chief-of staff is a “****ing paranoid schizophrenic” and that one of the president’s chief advisers, Steve Bannon, came to Washington to “suck his own ****.”
Scaramucci still has the president’s full backing and paranoid or not, his "chief of staff, one assumes, turned up for work today."
"we just witnessed in the Senate a travesty of anything that might be called parliamentary democracy. In the early hours last night, a week of secrecy, confusion and lies — almost a parody of how not to pass a law — eventually culminated in an ignominious defeat for a “skinny” repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act. It was a bill that would have openly sabotaged an existing law on which millions of Americans rely, with no effective or coherent alternative."
It's been a week of deranged diatribes and absolute nuttiness.
Fingers crossed that next week goes better.
Excellent piece by Mr. Sullivan, I'm familiar with his work & appreciate even if I don't always wholeheartedly agree with his thoughtviews on particular issues. Also have become familiar with his delivery by his appearances on Bill Maher's show, he's engaging & his use of rational persuasion strategies ... well ... works to effectively & rationally influence or persuade.
Thanks & respect for picking out the most salient points of the linked article, & that rationally persuaded me to read the whole piece!
Mr. Sullivan describes what I've referred to here as the 'tipping point'.

Today we have the POTUS crying because of the failure to get 50 votes so VP could throw his political career away. The POTUS does not even know why there are some areas which need 60 votes to pass.
This is of course after he tried to pick a fight with the Senator from Alaska. She has smacked him on that. She also will smack the Interior Dept. head at his next hearing before the Senate. The POTUS tried and failed to threaten funding for Federal projects in Alaska and used the Interior Dept. head, another lap dog of POTUS.
love the reply, "WOW! So the moment McCain MIGHT support your agenda, you call him an American Hero after disrespecting him and denying that he's a WAR HERO?"
This ,I agree 110% he thinks everyone has forgotten and he couldn't be more wrong.
Bait & Switch (fraudulent) advertising/marketing technique mostsuitable for the 'swallow it hook, line & sinker' folks.
& entirely unsuitable for vetting a candidate or for proper 'watchdogging' of those already in key positions of government.
