Which Obama thing would that be? Pulling the economy out of the second worst financial crisis in our history? Did you think he was going prevent single mothers from having children that they can`t or won`t support? Let me guess...it`s all the fault of the teacher`s unions.
Good for Devos. She bought the job fair and square!
Different thread but Obama plan to bring us of recession after the Dem fiasco of Freddy May mac and the Bfa lawsuit, his policies were short term , with our a long vision insight. The teacher unions have been controlling education and the direction for decades.
Its time for a positive change!
you do realize it's not thousands of dollars- it's hundreds of millions...and who cares if her salary is $1- that doesn't make her qualified or make it altruistic...and I would be less than shocked If she or someone in her family had huge stakes in charter school companies...you do realize with people as wealthy as she is don't really care about salary- its more about investments and carried interest, LP interests, and capital gains and the like...
Her husband is involved a charter high school. It is ranked in the "32nd percentile, meaning that it outperformed 32 percent of other public schools in the state in the 2013-14 school year, the most recent year for which data was available from the Michigan Department of Education."
"Asked whether Christian schools should continue to rely on giving—rather than pushing for taxpayer money through vouchers—Betsy DeVos replied, "There are not enough philanthropic dollars in America to fund what is currently the need in education...Our desire is to confront the culture in ways that will continue to advance God's kingdom."
My thoughts exactly. I think that DeVos will be a great education secretary. She puts students/parents (not unions) first.
At a time before there was a Teacher's Association (union) in our area, I saw my 5th-grade teacher's pay slip. She had a master's degree and 10 years of experience and her take-home pay for a month, was $262. Things changed after a union was formed and negotiations on salaries and benefits took place. But without that organization, teachers would still be so badly underpaid, that few of the good ones would be able to afford filling the jobs, despite their dedication.
Those who dismiss the interests of teachers as being insignificant, as you have, are a big part of the problems with education. If the right-wing union-haters want to dumb-down our society, they are taking the right path.
Happy with the DeVos pick... finally EVERYONE has the right to choose the best school for their kids. The anti-Trumpers are upset because people will see how great the system is and nobody will want to go back... this is Yuggeee!

What the naive right-wingers, who are celebrating DeVos' confirmation, don't realize is that those schools can now get funding to advance Allah's kingdom, Sharia law, etc....
Its amazing; the same day she is confirmed a congressman from a Kentucky introduced legislation calling for the dismantling of the Department of Education.

No need. DeVos will effectively dismantle the Dept. by herself.

Yes indeed.
Hippie types will be burning sage and including Tarot card readings in their lessons.
