Anything even remotely about firearms is controversial to anti gun nuts.
Maybe if the anti gun nuts didn't oppose every proposal to teach firearms safety at school some accidents like this could be avoided.
What about the pro-gun nuts who oppose any kind of mandatory training for those wishing to own a firearm?
Honestly, I think some basic education about guns in school is a very good idea, namely, that they are not toys and should be handled with care and respect.
Unfortunately, I suspect extremists on both sides would come out of the woodwork, either angry that the existence of guns was being acknowledged at all, or outraged that the program was indoctrinating their children against the Second Amendment.
So...the squabble goes on, and people continue to die needlessly.
While I am in favor of reasonable gun controls - background checks and the like - this tragedy is not a good argument against anyone having a gun. It *is* a good argument for people who want to have a gun being required to learn gun safety.
Back in the 90s, I knew someone who was at a party where someone was playing around with a gun. This fool insisted the gun was not loaded, and to prove his point, he aimed it at his head and pulled the trigger. He was killed instantly. Thank God he didn't point it at anyone else's head.
I was at a party once when someone demonstrated how the safety worked. The demonstration failed. I saw the hair blow up on a friend's head as the bullet narrowly missed him. You never point a gun toward anyone unless you mean to shoot him or prevent him raping, robbing or killing.
