I'm ocd when it comes to checking to see if they are loaded. So far so good, never had an accidental discharge.

What about the pro-gun nuts who oppose any kind of mandatory training for those wishing to own a firearm?

Honestly, I think some basic education about guns in school is a very good idea, namely, that they are not toys and should be handled with care and respect.

Unfortunately, I suspect extremists on both sides would come out of the woodwork, either angry that the existence of guns was being acknowledged at all, or outraged that the program was indoctrinating their children against the Second Amendment.

So...the squabble goes on, and people continue to die needlessly.

Or maybe the adults should have taken it upon themselves to learn
about gun safety?
This falls squarely on the man who bought the gun.

Yeah. I'm so OCD about it that I'm always detailed to teach that section in the Hunter Safety course I teach.

I've stopped hunting with more than one person due to unsafe gun handling. And one guy because he just talks too damned much.

Maybe, and his relative. If you hand me a gun, any gun, I just watched you unload and clear I will still check it myself.

Authorities said she was responsive and was rushed to WakeMed. She was discharged later in the afternoon and told ABC11 she is fine.

Back in the 90s, I knew someone who was at a party where someone was playing around with a gun. This fool insisted the gun was not loaded, and to prove his point, he aimed it at his head and pulled the trigger. He was killed instantly. Thank God he didn't point it at anyone else's head.
I was at a party once when someone demonstrated how the safety worked. The demonstration failed. I saw the hair blow up on a friend's head as the bullet narrowly missed him. You never point a gun toward anyone unless you mean to shoot him or prevent him raping, robbing or killing.
