Other Democrats conceded that Clinton’s appeals to minorities and women and repeated denunciations of Trump's behavior simply didn’t resonate with many working-class voters.

So much of this is identity politics,” said Democratic Rep. Ron Kind, who represents a blue-collar Wisconsin district where Trump and Clinton ran close to each other this year. “I hate to say it, but it’s true.”

In retrospect, the party’s constant attacks on Trump “proved to be a mistake,” said Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee, who represents a blue-collar district in Michigan and served as the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s committee to protect vulnerable incumbents. “We should have been completely focused on a positive, forward-looking agenda on jobs and the problems people face.”
So much of the Democratic Party platform switched from the economy to identity politics and calling the red state America a bunch of buffoons. The Democratic Party might be getting it but what about the media, Hollywood and everyday liberals? Why are they still stuck with this idea that they have to virtue signal about only the issues they care about while chiding everyone else as a relic of a racist, sexist past for not going along?

The Minnesota Democrat Rick Nolan attributed his victory to his focus on legislating — he skips the usual visits to call centers when in Washington — and having a longstanding focus on issues that are important to his district.

This year, those issues became the focus of the new president-elect’s campaign.

“Someone said, ‘When it comes to trade, and the need for changing the way we do politics, and [that] the system is fixed for the benefit of few and the expense of many, you sound a lot like Trump,’” Nolan said. “I said, ‘No, Trump sounds like me.’ And that has been who I am for a long time.”
Rick Nolan is a straight shooter who doesnt take marching orders from the financial overlords. Most representatives in Congress spend most of their days calling for dollars, begging the super rich for campaign donations and telling them what they can offer in return. Thats pathetic. Trump promises us to expand this corrupt swamp even further as swamp creatures are circling DC as we speak. We need more progressives like Rick Nolan to stand up for ordinary folks.

I thought Trump kicked out the lobbyists from his transition team? And also banned them from serving and will ban politicians from joining a lobbying firm for five years after office.

My theory is the Dems abandoned their economic platform for identity politics so they could usher in Hillary who is anything but a progressive or populist.

Well they better get it in a hurry or Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania will become permanently red. They may end up regularly winning the popular vote with high margins in California while losing the electoral college.

You were doing so well until then. That's pathetic when he is two months away from power.

The swamp creatures were there long before Trump was elected. They have feasted and are busy sucking up the crumbs that are left by the outgoing party.
We shall see but the promise is they will be on a more restricted diet. How much crow do liberals want to eat ?

Obama is speaking right saying how the democrats need to stop dividing people and address more people without the pandering to groups. Some people are waking up to the mistakes they have made.

The problem with this argument is that you considering it speaking to everyone when you talk to white people(aka a group), but not when you talk to minorities.

Its identity politics either way, you just like one group and not the other.

But lets be clear, Donald Trump was forced to choose Mike Pence( an establishment republican) as his VP, he then chose Rience Prebius as his Chief of Staff( the RNC chairman).

His CIA director is a former defense and oil contractor.

His Attorney general has been a politician for 22 years, in Congress for 20, basically running in a senate seat that he could win without ever campaigning for.

Nobody is denying that. But if you look at Trump's list of cabinet choices, we're gonna have alligators in DC for many more years to come.
