Anybody can draft up an online petition then blast it to their social media feeds and get a million signatures for pretty much anything as long as it doesn't take much effort.
I have never seen a petition from anyone accomplish anything concrete. The White House says they will look as an issue if there are a certain number of votes, but it never results in anything concrete.

You are right. I was thinking if there was a deadlock in the Electoral College and no majority was received. In that case it would go to the house.

Actually, I just looked at the petition, and it's now 4,535,934 supporters.

I'm sure it will go nowhere, but if it somehow should, I wonder how many people who have been defending the EC would still think it's such a great idea. There is little in the way of real consequences for faithless electors.

There is no requirement for everyone to sign it. There is no requirements, period, which is why it is doomed to fail.

I suspect if we were to start a petition in support of inditing Hillary for her crimes - it would garner a minimum 10x the votes.

I didn't sign, but apparently they have over 1.3 million signatures already.

Petition for electoral college coup against Trump gets more than 1 million signatures

Anger and discontent over President-elect Donald Trumpís victory is being channeled into an electoral college coup attempt. More than a million people have signed a petition urging electors from states Trump won to cast their votes instead for Hillary Clinton

so the population of the united states is 324,000,000. So 4 tenths of a percent want the change......?
Good luck with that.
