The same applies to Dems. Obama is the leader of the war on drugs. And I don't see Dems in congress proposing legalization any more than Reps.

In fact, Dems owned Congress and could have legalize marijuana. They didn't.

And Reagan started the war on drugs. Both parties suck.

Yes, both parties suck. But it was not Reagan. It all started with FDR in the 1930s. And the objective was racist.

No, FDR. Nixon just gave it the name and fanned the flames. FDR got the marijuana tax act passed in 1937.

Nixon did a lot more than give it a name.

Thing is, it was technically legal until Nixon, you just had to pay the tax and get the stamp. From what I understand, it was next to impossible to do it so it was de-facto illegal. Nixon cracked down on marijuana as a reaction to the hippies who were smoking it.

I believe there was a short period where it was legal also between the tax being ruled unconstitutional and Nixon's much harsher war on drugs.

Sometimes it seems like Republicans and conservatives want to ban anything that brings anybody enjoyment or pleasure so everyone is as angry and as miserable as they are.
