We know that disabled people are currently living on $600 a month in SSI. The elderly are looking at around $1000 a month on average. If Trump slashes it in half, will America be great again do you think?
As we defund Obama Care money will float into the Medicare and the SSI admin. Obama has in fact cut the Medicare and SSI to fund Obama Care!

The problem with privatizing social security is that the majority of Americans are not equipped to do their own investing. There should be an option whether you want to privatize. The republicans want to undo rules for financial advisors, and Dodd Frank which places some limits on Wall Street.

As you can see the Wall Street crowd did just fine after the last debacle, and middle America was crushed. Fortunately I was not near retirement in 2009 but millions were and they have been irreparably harmed.

It is easy say get rid of social security, thats great when companies offered pensions, but most folks only have social security and maybe a 401k, if they are lucky.

There is no "funding" of Social Security.. its a TAX.. followed by a welfare program. i.e. check.

Gay couples also work and pay into SS.

Don't tell us, tell Trump.

Better yet, write to your congressman's staff office in your state ( it's better than sending it to D.C.)

Totally false.

Before Social Security, 60% of seniors were living in poverty. That's why Social Security was started.

Now there are about 20% of seniors living in poverty. Social Security has been one of the most successful programs ever passed in the United States. It has done precisely what it was intended to do.

Read your history.

Social Security, however, was not intended to be SSI for the disabled, since they can get payments without having worked and contributed for decades. SS is self-funding, so there's no extra money, theoretically, for disability.

If SS is cut in any way, people will literally die. Some will commit suicide, and others will die because of a lack of being able to provide sustenance for themselves. This is a time of life when people are unable to do things to better their situation. Yet, they have worked for decades and contributed to the economy of the country.

This is what civilized societies do.

If it is partially privatized, SS will wither on the vine and die. It cannot exist without the pool system.

BTW...you get your contributions and your employer contributions back. That's how they determine the amount of your benefits. If you die earlier than predicted, your part stays in the pool. If you live longer than predicted, your checks continue, drawing on the extra amounts in the pools. It works very well.

It's not very different than a small village would go to take care of its elders. Pool their money into a fund to take care of their seniors. There are duties when you are part of a civilized society. We all contribute to making the economy successful, which allows certain companies and people to become very successful. Without the masses, there would not be enough people to buy goods and services, and the economy would collapse.

This greed is getting out of control.

You'd have to be an idiot to advocate the removal of the only defined benefit plan most of Americans will ever have access to. All the while many of you enjoy pensions or social security now. Got yours I guess screw everyone else?

There is an upside to this. Average age here is quite high...

I don't recall saying that there is "funding" for Social Security. Are you saying that I did?
