With the possible appointment of Jerry Falwell Jr to head the Education Department, it makes me think we are going to see more attempts to get young-earth creationism into science curriculum in public schools.
The thing about this issue is that creationism isn't agreed upon even among most Christians. Most Christians, including mainline, Catholic, and moderate evangelicals have no issues with accepting evolution as the means in which God created the earth. It's only the far-right fundamentalists and conservative evangelicals that completely deny evolution and believe that the earth was created in six literal days, 6,000 years ago.
With that being the case, why do so many people think it's a good idea to teach that in public schools? Most people pushing for it use the line "teach both theories and let the students decide for themselves." Why teach something that is believed by maybe only a third of Christians alongside or instead of something that's actually agreed on by 99.9% of scientists and is a legitimate scientific theory?
I don't mind if they teach creationism in a Religious Studies class. I wouldn't even mind if they required students to take Religious Studies classes (assuming they only teach *about* the religion, and not *by* the religion -- assuming we're talking about public schools).
Jerry Falwell Jr being "willing" to head dept of education is not the same as being considered. Sounds like fake news. Anyone thinking this would be a positive thing, you are just too precious for words.
Why don't people ever want to address the real elephant in the room here.
Why do public schools exist in the first place? What do government schools teach? Why do they only teach impressionable children? While having them pledge their allegiance to a flag, which they don't even understand.

Evolution is a religion also. Take it out of the textbooks. Leave the Religion teaching to families.
Who gives a **** about evolution and creationism. Public-schools are the real evil. They exist only to propagandize young children with the things the government wants them to believe. And to teach obedience to authority.
Why do you think these schools don't seem to be interested in actually educating the children? The kid in remedial classes, or even the kid with severe learning-disabilities, will get passed along with a diploma. No one cares. Education isn't the point of public-school.
Obedience to authority is the most-important aspect of the public-education system. Think of someone who has a diploma. What does he actually know that others wouldn't know? What skills does he have?
A diploma doesn't say much of anything about what that person knows, but in order to get a diploma, he has to actually have gone to school. Which means he had to go to bed at night, wake up in the morning, get dressed, get on the bus, sit in class, listen to his teacher, do his work, and not cause any problems.
In simplest terms, the kinds of people who drop out of school, are people who don't respect authority. They are rebellious, they won't obey. And they must be punished. They must be stopped. Otherwise this country will cease to exist.
All countries are hierarchical, just like the military. You must obey orders. You must do as you're told. Or you'll be dragged to the ground, beaten, or shot. Just ask the police.
Creationism is no longer useful to the government, and in many cases it is an obstacle to the prerogatives of the state, and so it must be eliminated. Anything which opposes our national interests will be destroyed.
