Of course there would be. Celebration of the winter solstice has been a thing since time out of mind, long before jesus was born.

Puritans banned christmas celebrations for this very reason - they are historically pagan.

So you made it up. I thought so.

I know, this is great! For example I was running late today and there was a group of muslims in front of me in a line and I cut ahead of them. One of them looked at me like he was about to say something and I just said "Trump" and turned back around. They got the message.

Amongst me n mine it's always been Merry Christmas. Ya know, this holiday season is the first one in DECADES I'm actually looking forward to. Since I split with the ex Christmas and Thanksgiving are back to how I was raised. Non materialistic. This year it's all about just being with the people I love. And mainly just my lady and me and our kids. Tidy and intimate. Neither of us likes the whole feeling obligated to spend righteous bucks on gifts. That's not what it's about.

Merry Christmas all the way. But first....we Thanksgiving feast. For at least a week. Lol, best part is the killer sandwiches and other creative stuff from the leftovers.

Pretty sure people never stopped saying it unless their employer had a particular way of addressing the holidays. That isn't changing people.

I just said, "Sneezings Greetings" to a lady who sneezed in Half Price Books. She seemed to appreciate it. I thought it was better than yelling, "Snotty Snotmas!" at her.

Why?

The name of the holiday IS Christmas.
There are a number holidays that occur on or around Christmas. If you happen to be Christian, then Christmas is your holiday, so say Merry Christmas to your heart's content. But, don't be offended if others answer you with Happy Hanukkah or Happy Ramaden. "Happy Holidays" covers all of them and is particularly appropriate when the faith (or non-faith) of a person is unknown.
