It was discussed at our Thanksgiving dinner but nobody is really upset about things, it's more curiosity and fascination.

While my thanksgiving holiday dinners have been filled with drama in the past (relative coming out as gay, drama over politics, etc.), my family has learned to pretty much play nice and get along with everyone else. And my family has a mix of the Black Lives Matter crowd, Trump supporters, leftist Buddhists, Bernie-loving socialists, cultural-social conservatives, etc.

Went to my mom's for the Thanksgiving feast yesterday. Leaned up against each plate at the dining room table was a hand written note to each of us, "No politics today". I got a chuckle out of it, but I knew she wanted to nip anything which could ruin an otherwise great holiday in the bud.

Everyone who came by complied, and it was a very peaceful, easy going afternoon with lots of eating, drinking, and talking about all sorts of non-political topics.

Sounds boring.

I attended a very large neighborhood potluck, and there was no talk of politics whatsoever.

I started things out by giving my 100% true blue Democratic mother in law a card. She was like "it's not my birthday, what's this for" She opened it and it was a sympathy card signed very sorry for your loss, Donald Trump

She even laughed, and she normally has no humor for this. Really cut the tension, even the liberal idiotic aunt and uncle thought it was funny. When I saw them laugh I decided not to attack them like I had planned and we had a good time after that.

It's best to keep the talk to Turkey, Stuffing, the football season, etc.

Anyone that brings up politics is obviously not very smart or is looking to create a quarrel.

Plus, we've been arguing about politics for over a year, most are tired of it.

We have too much catching up to do to allow trivial poo ruin our gathering. Memories of those who have crossed over, getting to know those who have come into our family by birth or other ways.
Just happy to visit, laugh, love and eat.

Can't stand football, my family doesn't drink, and while my sister is a complete frothing at the mouth liberal, most of the rest of us don't take it that seriously.
Most of the rest of the family voted Trump, so I knew the sister would be in complete meltdown, so the wife and I worked yesterday and I took the wife to a local restaurant for dinner instead.

I heard from my father last night that the rest of the family basically told her to sit down, shut up, and that political talk was verboten.
After that, it went pretty well.
