That would hurt the bottom line of Trump Industries I bet. Maybe he should just sell the building to the Fed and buy it back after his term/terms are up.

Guess why the government didn't want to use it as a presidential retreat?
Very interesting. Some of the links are dead. I found the relevant info (re exactly why FEDGOV sold the property) in a Daily Beast article about MMP. And interesting how that issue (safety), and Trump's ongoing lawsuit (noise) are both related to the airport. With the two parts of the lawsuit that weren't dismissed, I wonder if Trump's lawyers will appear to press ahead re those issues. He might think the club members would have a more enjoyable experience if the lawyers prevail.

I wonder if during Trump's time in office, when at Mar-a-lago, what noise issues will be present. When Bush 41 was VP, one of his oil buddies lived a couple of miles away from me in the same town in the SF Bay Area. When Bush was running against Clinton, his friend had a fundraiser for Bush at his estate. I knew in advance when the fundraiser was taking place because a relative of mine planned to attend the fundraiser. I don't remember how far in advance it was (but it wasn't long) helicopters flew over my house into place as part of the detail.....and they were flying pretty low and they were LOUD. IDK, perhaps technology has now rendered that much intrusiveness obsolete.

Why would he do that? It's not as though he could ask the SS prior to deciding to run what their requirements would be. That would only be something you'd have access to knowing after winning the election. The Secret Service has to pay for other permanent command centers, why should this one be any different? Because he happens to own the building and a lot of people wish his opponent had won?...please. He plans to work for $1 per year. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg works for $1 per year. That is one thing....this is another.

Bill Clinton is the third highest paid speaker, after Reagan and Trump. He made up for it with volume.

Hillary also was in the speaker's circuit. Speaking fees have been their primary source of income since Bill left office, reportedly about $89 million over 11 years.

Absolutely noting factual to suggest the Clintons financially benefited from thir foundation work.

It's not unusual for former presidents and politicians in general to hit the speakers circuit.

Giuliani made about $10 million a year in speaking fees.

Bush 2 charges a fee of $110,000 per speech.

Cheney is paid $75,000.

Romney's fee is $40-60,000.

If one becomes president, they will leave office wealthy or at least very well off. Anyone who doesn't think Trump will get benefits from his time during the presidency is kidding themselves. Honestly, I don't think there is anything wrong with that. The amount of stress and time consumed for presidents is incredible, they deserve to get something in return. They are all basically set for life, but they also work as much in 4-8 years as most people will do in a lifetime.

What's your basis for saying 250 is ridiculous?

Trump presents an unprecedented exposure.

Federal Government leased land and build a multi complex operation on Reagan's 700 acre ranch.
Where was the outrage?

The 250 people gets whittled down pretty fast after office. I think most former presidents have like 2 body gaurds or something.
Actually, when POTUS travels anywhere, the trip is broken down, official vs political business. That portion of use of AF1 that is political, gets charged to the political party sponsoring the trip.

Government picks up the tab for SS wherever the POTUS/ Former POTUS goes.
