I think the man deserves respect. but I always believed he was doing what he felt was right for his people. .
yeah sure, he confiscated all the guns after he won power so no one could rise up against him, he made himself leader for life, imprisoned or executed any opposition, made neighborhood leaders watch and report their neighbors, forced children into the sugar cane fields, confiscated food and redistributed at his control, squashed free speech and media, and so on.......
when the progressive left praise leaders like him and Chavez, we can only assume that the progressive left believe in that kind of system.......
How many murders? What total theft? How much sadness and despair is this communist filth responsible for? We'll likely never know the full tally of human/humanitarian destruction caused by his time on Earth.

Unlike his predecessor, Castro didn`t have a reputation for cutting the eyeballs out of people who dared to speak for the cane cutters. Batista did send the eyes to his victim`s families so he wasn`t all bad.
Just heard about the passing of Fidel Castro. Regardless of whatever political ideology you embrace, this man was a great leader for his country. He lived a full life, and died at 90, outlasting many of his detractors (individuals, and world leaders alike).

You have to realize, that is exactly what the left, including in this country, WANT. Any kind of brutality and slaughter is acceptable, any kind of human misery, just so long as humans can't rise as a result of their own effort. So long as people don't get ahead as a result of their own skills and abilities. As long as the government can control people that is all they are after.
Castro was as much of a monster as Chavez, Che and Stalin. The Muhammads of the leftist worlds.

The dictator that ensured statist control and limitation or outright bans on and over his people and their basic human rights, such as freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of movement, who they could associate with, and controlled and forced manipulation of the press?
He imprisoned an entire nation and bent it to his will.
What world am in, in which this many laud his existence?
