Again, who will pay Houston PD to enforce immigration? Residents of Houston?
banal. thas the best thing I can say about your question/argument.
Kate Steinle's family doesn't care.
Here is how it works. the police to their normal job. They don't go looking for illegal aliens. They just do their job. They arrest bad guys. when they do arrest someone and it turns out the person is here illegally they notify ICE. that doesn't cost anything.
ICE comes and gets them. period.
OR as in Kate's situation, ICE puts out a notification. you arrest someone and that person is on ICE's list, you call ICE. They come pick them up.
No one has asked anyone to do more than their job. period. What we are asking, is do your job.
Yes there is an immigrant community, like it or not and the police don't want the responsibility for deportation. That is a fact.
if you are illegal you don't get to be "community' and please we reject the notion these are immigrants. They are interlopers. Some are really really nice people. wonderful even. MOST are quite polite and do their best to stay away from any legal entanglement. But that neither makes them immigrants, nor "community".
and local LE isn't responsible for deportation. Local LE is responsible for notifying ICE. then upon ICE's discretion, either hold or release.
Good start. Conservatives control most states. Let the states weigh in. The federal government can clean up what is left.
Funny how conservatives claim to believe in decentralized government, but when a lower level government does something contrary to the wishes of a higher level government, the higher level government bans it.

I've pointed out the hypocrisy here before. I am for the federal government enforcing the laws it passes. If they are bad laws I support the people fighting them but if there is such a thing as state rights, should they also not be allowed to decide that they are not going to spend money enforcing federal laws?

Yep that's what happens. The "sanctuary" cities Austin and Dallas, don't always notify ice.
"ICE is familiar with our agreement and doesn’t submit a detainer unless it falls into the upper two categories that are designated so in effect we have declined zero."
Declined zero, it's not because Austin is cooperating, it's because they only notify ICE when the illegal falls into certain categories.

sigh.....Protecting/enforcing our borders IS a Federal issue. It is one of the duties of our Federal government.
A nation without borders is no nation.

We shouldn't be basing policy on one tragic event.
Deportation is not quite as simple as you describe, law inforcement needs to hold them and ICE needs to go through the deportation process. How does that work with around 1M illegal immigrants in Dallas, are they hiring more police and LE, building more holding facilites, hiring more administrators to oversee that many deportations?
ICE doesn't simply drive them to the border and drop.
So what does the ban on sanctuary cities accomplish since they do not exist formally, at least not in Texas. How does this address the problem. Seems like just pandering.

Well, that is what the money the state is going to withhold, is for. The city will not be able to support the illegals and the citizens without it.
