I believe that Constitutional checks and balances are still working as well as can be expected.
The only circumstance in which I see a break-up of the current body politic having a realistic chance of occurring is a complete change in the energy production and distribution paradigm.
Despite all the progress in renewables, it appears that we are still far, far away from that.
For now, lots of people enjoy indulging in political drama as a form of entertainment.
Meanwhile a few others take themselves too seriously and actually suffer it. More fool them.
