For example, let's say we ban certain inanimate objects like high-proof liquor or AR-15s because they are dangerous. Would you consider that as something of a conservative view?

It's an authoritarian view.

All statists are authoritarians. They don't recognize the non-aggression principle or respect private property rights.

It makes sense. I guess it explains why this thread doesn't really get much responses.


My reason for creating this thread is because I grew up with an immigrant mother who held very (socially) conservative views, especially when it came to doing extracurricular things. It's unhealthy to drink, smoke pot, do more outgoing things etc. Thankfully I'm an adult and I don't have to worry about that anymore, and frankly I don't think she really cares to be honest.

Historically american conservatism is limiting government, specifically the federal government, not liberty.

What conservative has morphed to is a commentary on social norms and they are often incompatible.
