Just a sign of things to come? Do they not realise this will raise the price of gas even further? I bet this makes them feel better though.

I guess you were so desiring to slam Democrats that you had to resort to an out of date story from last summer.

Wow, your right, I never realised that last year they pass another $16 billion tax increase. Just seen that today they passed another $18 billion increase.

Wow, they are doing really good things, thanks for pointing out that the Democrats have added $34 BILLION in extra taxes to the consumer.

Crude oil prices have topped and pump prices are more than $3 per gallon, with indications that $4 is not out of the picture as the summer driving season approaches.

I bet they can get it to hit $5 per gallon if they just add more taxes..

The problem is that the increase in corporate taxes only passes those taxes directly to the consumer with higher fuel costs. It costs the company nothing whereas it costs the consumers more... thanks for "save consumers money"... idiots... unless they enact rules that companies cannot pass the "hidden" tax on their products, it won't save consumers on anything... but then the sheep out their don't know any better and say "hurray" to the democrats not realizing the government just stoled more of their money.. the sheep they are..

And how much of that $34 million went to Halliburton and Iraq?

House OKs New Taxes on Big Oil Companies | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle (broken link)

ARTICLE---------

The House approved $18 billion in new taxes on the largest oil companies Wednesday as Democrats cited record oil prices and rising gasoline costs in a time of economic troubles.
The money collected over 10 years would provide tax breaks for wind, solar and other alternative energy sources and for energy conservation.
That is less then $ 2 billion dollar tax per year. What's the point of having such a thing, it will have no effect. The same goes for the President Bush threat to veto it.

A similar tax proposal passed the House last summer, but it was abandoned in the Senate where Democrats couldn't muster the 60 votes needed to overcome a GOP filibuster. Senate Democrats were maneuvering to avoid a repeat of that with the newly passed House measure.

So the first $14 billion dollar (over 10 year period) didn't pass. You are wrong------------------------------ again.

Let's imagine if market price of per gallon oil reaches $4. If democrats raise the gallon price by adding, as you imagine, a $1 tax per gallon--------that would generate not as the current democrat tax of $2 billioin dollar per year.

Instead, it would generate(according to your view with regards to democrats)--------------------

EIA - Petroleum Basic Data
Data (2006 )

Gallons consumed by U.S motor------ 388 million gallons/per day * 1.5(as you propose--- 50 cents the national average and $1 more as you suggested that democrat might do. )

388 (million gallons) * 365(days) ==== almost $200 billion dollar per year

Well, the price you pay for gas can fund gold toilets in Saudi Arabia or fund alternative energy in the United States. Take your pick.

Too bad the Seven Sisters oil companies can't yet get their act together WITH $100/BARREL OIL PRICES to fund alternative energy sources and operations that would actually make a difference in our economy.

It was costing the consumer anyway, through tax breaks to the oil companies.
The oil companies are making record profits.
