China will be the loser under Trump. Maybe he did get sick and tired of their games and views them as the power player in Asia.

Before it was looking like a China/Russia alliance , now Trump will shake that alliance by improving relations with Russia. So, China will be in the driving seat anymore. Japan can only enjoy a stronger alliance with the US.

When it all settles down. China will be on the losing end. Look for a pan Asian loose alliance including even India all against China.

Taiwan and Trump's engagement there will be the beginning of a tougher stance towards China.

I'm not so sure walling China off from all it's allies and economic partners is such a good strategy for the US and the consequences for the rest of the world.

You need to do some reading about the history of China and Taiwan. The NYT has a good article in the paper today that explains a lot of things that you don't seem to know -- like the fact that China and Taiwan is not a choice between one or the other. They both claim each other. Taipei used to be the capital of China, not Beijing. They had a Civil War in China and it was never settled, so Taiwan says that China belongs to Taiwan and China says that Taiwan belongs to China.

Don't waste your breath. Trump supporters don't read the NYT and are ignorant about history and proud of it.

The official name of Taiwan is Republic of China.
The only official language of Taiwan is Mandarin Chinese.
Over 95% Taiwanese residents are ethic Han Chinese.

Do the facts make you understand something?

67 years ago, the US interrupted the Chinese civil war so the Communists failed to unify Taiwan, where the Nationalists fled to.
Now both sides claim each other's land, and the respective governments are often hostile to each other. However, the people do business with each other a lot, and have tourists, exchange students and so on. They also have direct flights.
The issue is way more complex than many Americans think.

Taiwan is a wonderful place.

As an American, I agree with op when he says, "Play the Taiwan card."

I also believe keeping the status quo benefits America the most. Meaning, doing businesses with both parties, no wars, "one China policy, no unification, no independence."

Win win for everybody.
