Which would be worse: a Big Brother type government with absolute power or a place where absolutely NO type of government existed at all?

In short, would absolute despotism or absolute anarchy be worse?

Absolute despotism. At least with anarchy, you have some ability to determine your own fate.

You're living under absolute government.

To think otherwise is the height of folly.

If they want you dead or caged...you'll be dead or caged.

Total government collapse leads to the rise of tyrannical warlords. It's not an either-or situation - they're two sides of the same coin.

I agree for the same reason.

Technically, they almost seem alike except that in the case of absolute despotism, only the ruling people get to act any way they want without consequences, hampered only by insurrections, whereas, in absolute anarchy, everyone can do whatever they want, hampered only be others pushing back.

Truthfully, neither seem very stable or able to last too long.

That wasn't the question you originally asked.

If there was anarchy, I think smaller communities of people would just naturally come together and create their own rules.

It's kind of a funny question to me since I actually advocate having "no government". All it means is that people would spontaneously organize on their own without a ruler or ruling class deciding HOW they organize and spend their money...which bklynkenny essentially said in the last post.

That's infinitely better than every aspect of life being controlled by a central authority. Being in a totalitarian state is essentially the same as being in prison.

No government would be worse. Because when you get out of fantasy land where everyone lives in peace, sings in perfect harmony, and drinks a Coke, reality is it wouldn't take long for that "no government" to turn into a dictatorship form of government of some kind.

Most folks whining about the government today do so because they live under a form of government that provides the safety and freedom to do so.
