This said, Now the main reason why there are still nuclear weapons is that it is impossible to un-invent them. If one side has them, then, by definition, the other must have them as well. The more countries that posses nuclear weapons, the more difficult it because to disarm; nuclear weapons are the great equalizer: they allow a smaller nation to stand up to a more powerful one.

Furthermore there are certain high-value targets that in case of a general war can only be destroyed with nuclear weapons, there simply isn't any alternative.
The question isn't whether we have them or if they're here to stay, It's WHY do we need more of them?

I believe you're 100% correct.

Recklessly tweeting about escalating a nuclear arms race.

What a fool.

This speaks for itself.

Nah, they're trained to (rightly) fear Conservatives who preach less government and less government spending yet grow government and spend like drunken sailors when it suits their agenda.

I have no idea. Maybe America being the super power has something to do with it.

In an all out nuclear war, even if only 10% of our warheads hit their targets, there'd be between 500-700 nuclear detonations and no doubt as many launched by the 'enemy'. Would that leave a world anyone would really want to live in?

In a limited nuclear war I have to believe an arsenal of 5,000-7,000 warheads would suffice.

I have to believe your labeling this little but a 'mine is bigger than yours' contest is correct and a damn stupid reason to throw good $$$ after bad. I think being a 'super power' is highly over rated, historically it seems to lead to our foolishly believing we are the world's police, I'd rather see our power be limited to what's needed to defend ourselves and the Department of Defense tasked as such.

It's not just about using them.

It's also about destabilizing the world and making some other nut use them. And it's also about the cost.
