Why in the world would you have a problem with this? If someone does not have the mental capacity to manage their finances, why should they own a gun?
Because those are unrelated issues. Millions of old people have their children handle their finances but are perfectly capable of handling a gun and taking care of themselves physically. My dad had my sister take care of his finances for the last 12 years of his life. Be he was able to drive a car and take care of his house.
So now if you are receiving Social Security payments and have your child handling your finances, you no longer can own a gun. Thanks Obama for screwing the little people again.
BTW, when is the last time an 80 year old who is too feeble to handle their own finances went out and shot up a theatre?

Seeking tighter controls over firearm purchases, the Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs, a move that could affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others.
Because someone is not good at managing their money, that incudes many people on and off SS, does not equate to them not being responsible gun owners. Besides, the odds of someone on SS being your biggest danger are almost nonexistent, now the gangbanger with a shiny new gun that is just itching to use it might be.
Bad law, solves nothing and will be ruled unconstitutional if implemented.
This is true. And it's not a law passed by Congress.
I have no problem with this. The mentally ill should not be allowed to own guns. The other day an elderly man in PA went to the store and ended up in Alabama. People with that kind of degraded mental ability have no need to own a gun.
Where is the line between mentally ill and competent? Who are you going to find to make this determination that isn't going to just try and cover their ass? Most importantly if someone is feeling a little crazy what effect is that going to have if they think they will lose their guns if they seek treatment?
It's very easy say keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill until you get into the details.
The person has been declared mentally incapacitated to handle finances, I think that should be enough.
I have a relative where most her fiances are handled by two children, she always has cash on hand for anything she needs to pay for which is not much. She would certainly be mentally competent enough to own a firearm.
