And before you scoff at the idea that China can't logistically pull it off, China has been making all sorts of headway in South and Latin America with trade deals and loans, which of course could be construed as more of a long term military strategy in order to be able to start building military bases in our backyard.
first thing is that sea lanes are open, the US navy has been making that happen since its inception in 1776.
second the chinese bought that carrier from the russians, not exactly a surface navy powerhouse to begin with, and also lacking in naval aviation capability.
third, in ten years the chinese are going to have perhaps three carriers at best, right now the US has ten carrier battle groups roaming the oceans, and we could put together perhaps four or five more if needed fairly quickly. that means 15 carrier battle groups roaming the oceans of the world.
fourth the US has been operating aircraft carriers since just after world war one. we have an extensive background in carrier group operations, and our carrier people are some of the best in the world, as are the ships.
i dont think we have anything to worry about for the foreseeable future. one more thing to consider, we have a serious fleet of submarines, and you can bet that they would be shadowing the chinese carrier group(s) all over the pacific, and if they get rowdy with the US, you can bet they will find they are in trouble very quickly.

And we are not in their backyard? By the way, the Pacific is not ours.
