Franz was there and saw how Hitler came to power and how the people were lulled into thinking he was their solution and savior. So many of us here see so many parallels with what is happening right in America today.
This is not coming from some crackpot, but a retired Psychiatrist who lived this experience first hand. Trump supporters will poo poo all of this, as they always do, but there is more to indicate we might have cause for concern than not.

OP, you say one of Trump's appointees has a record of making anti-Semitic remarks, but how does that square with another appointee wanting to strengthen Israel at all costs, at the risk of aggravating the situation in the region? This is shaping up to be a potentially chaotic administration, with key appointees holding opinions that clash with each other.
Isn't that what you want in an administration? A "team of rivals" that I keep hearing about? Of course, in order for that approach to work, you have to actually have some faith in the judgment of the guy in charge who will take the differing opinions of his advisors and make his own decision, so, point taken, because I don't know that anyone has implicit trust in Trump's judgment.
But on the other hand, if all his advisors agreed, you'd be accusing him of putting together a team of "yes-men"....
I find it amazing that when Conservatives warn about the possibility of a Tyrannical government regime, they are dismissed as paranoid, tin foil hat wearing lunatics and are promptly laughed at...

The point he makes is not whether Trump is a socialist, a liberal, a libertarian or a what the hell he is, it is the danger of populism. A populist can be of any party but they use demagoguery to promote a message that is filled with hate, blames foreigners and certain races as the source of a nation's problems and appeals largely to people who tend to be make decisions on emotion rather than careful thought. In other words, people who are easy pray for rhetoric with lots of bluster but short on facts.
Hitler appealed to the widespread feeling of lost pride after Germany's defeat and humiliating terms of the armistice from WW I. He blamed the Jews for much of Germany's problems. Trump's campaign was conducted with the same sort of hateful speech, but this time blaming Muslims, Mexicans, and the press (something else Hitler took control of).
Never mind that Middle Eastern != Muslim, but I think you've said enough.

I hate lots of people for one reason or another. Yes, I do have a strong hatred for many middle-easterners. Not because they're from the middle-east, but because they've come here and expect to bring it with them.
Did I say all? No. But whether you're from the middle-east or the middle of Scotland, if you come here and expect we in the United States to adapt to your way of life instead of the other way around, well, to put it bluntly, GO HOME! Comprende?

The sad part is you cannot see the salient difference between Pres. Obama and Pres. elect Trump.
This is not an accident, this is all by design. It's called the Dumbing Down of America. It starts with fake news like Breitbart and propaganda like FOX News.
Do you think the German people were inherently evil? Or how about the Japanese? No, of course not, neither group was, but they were taught to believe in something very evil. It works the same with anyone, of any race. And what worked before can work again. The Dumbing Down of America is what creates fertile ground for such ideas to grow.
The same approach used before is now being used again. We can only remain vigilant that the we do not repeat historical mistakes in this country that have brought other nations into tyranny.
Never did Pres. Obama advocate against any group of people like Trump did, nor was he openly hostile and contemptuous of the press. And that is just for starters.
