Yes, Russia's economics isn't in good shape now. But russian people don't blame Putin for it.
Not openly they don't and who could blame them.
Quote:
Putin's net-worth is $200 billion says Russia's once largest foreigner investor
CNN’s FAREED ZAKARIA GPS features an interview with Bill Browder, the CEO of Hermitage Capital Management, formerly Russia's largest foreign investor, and a once supporter of President Putin. He also describes the dynamics between power and wealth in Russia, claiming that during “the first eight or 10 years of Putin's reign over Russia, it was about stealing as much money as he could. And some people, including myself, believe that he's the richest man in the world, or one of the richest men in the world, with hundreds of billions of dollars of wealth that was stolen from Russia.”
Russians laugh at the hapless Obama and his latest move to "sanction" Russian.
And some Americans applaud the Russians. Definitely not Ronald Reagan Republicans, the world is a strange place where so-called "Conservatives" support a KGB agent over the President of the United States of America.

The operative word in your post is "Americans"...many posting here are not.
Why do you care so much about the Russians. Do you want to move there or something? Go for it then. But people usually mock because they have no idea how to handle the situation. It's just like people laughing when they are in an awkward situation which is what Russia is in now. Our sanctions will greatly hurt them. Look it up so no one has to tell you.
No, I had not. These people apparently had a form of democracy before USA and Russia existed as unified nations.
People of medieval Novgorod were gathering on meeting (veche) and then were taking many decisions there. Just google "Novgorod Veche" to learn more about first russian democracy.

Many are supposed to be, me thinks they are not very good Americans.
