I think if that couple likes living that way, I (and I am a liberal) am fine with it.

Note - Fargo is
1. a college town if you like that (University of North Dakota)
2. deals with a lot of flooding
3. Is the size of many suburbs (population 119,000 or so)
4. Has a local Opera company
5. Has a Casino
6. Has a small theater

If ya like that life, go for it.

I prefer the big city life myself.

Nope doesn't bother me at all, because I find doing cancer research and engineering much more gratifying in terms of a career than answering phones all day. I don't do cancer research in order to become rich and yes, things are move expensive on the coasts because that's where highly educated people live, where the work is, and where people want to move their families in order to obtain high quality education for their kids. You must pay for it.

If you can find a plethora of job opporunities in fields related to high tech, cutting edge research that advances this country in states like Nebraska, Kansas, Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming....I'm all ears. Until then, most high tech jobs with companies that YOU probably invest in with your 401k portfolios are based on the coasts in areas such as Boston, NYC, SF, Seattle, etc.

I actually think its funny how vehemently opposed to education, science, engineering, and R and D people in middle America can be, because ya know 'YOU'RE JUST A FANCY SCHMANCY PANTS EDUMACATED LUBRAL!!!! TAKE THAT COLLEGE BOY!'.

Also, do you think this map of states with the worst rates of alcoholism is just a coincidence:

https://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/data-stats.htm

There's literally almost nothing to do in the rust belt except drink yourselves to death.

HA! I live in Florida, and everyone i know drinks like there is no tomorrow. The parties, clubs, festivals, etc.... all add to that drinking.

#1 You misinterpreted your own map. It isn't a map of the states with the worst alcoholism rates. But of binge drinkers only and how much those binge drinkers drink...which is completely different than what you sold it as.

#2 I disagree with your elitist mentality of the rust belt having nothing to do, but drink ourselves to death. I love living on the Great Lakes near large parks. I have a lot I can do, thank you.

Kind of funny you claim to be a cancer researcher and engineer and have such disgust for the middle of America considering the best cancer hospitals are actually located in middle of the country. Places like Houston Texas and Minnesota, The Texas medical center (MD Anderson Cancer Center ) and Mayo clinic

#1 Wrong. Open the link. There's more in there.

#2 Your anecdote is nice, but doesn't dismiss the CDC's findings.

Those are hospitals were people go to get treated. Most of biotech is concentrated in SF, Boston, NJ/NYC, MD, Philadelphia, etc. Do I really need to the light lifting work for you?

Top 10 U.S. Biopharma Clusters | The Lists | GEN

Nearly ALLLLLLL biotech, major engineering firms, and other high tech industries are along the corridors of the coasts. No one said anything about there not being good hospitals in the middle, but hospitals aren't developing most of the products that actually make it to the market. LIke I said, if you have examples of hundreds and thousands of high tech R and D jobs that have high salaries in the rust belt and in Middle America I as well as everyone else is all ears. Until then, the vast majority of those with the most education and who do most of the country's R and D will gravitate to the coasts, because that's where most of the jobs are. It's really no secret.

Oh the irony. My middle of America state has one of the best cancer research hospitals in the world. And my software engineer husband has a plethora of opportunities here. But please stay where you are, my state is known for its friendliness as well, so we don't need transplants with attitudes.

I would think as a supposed "cancer researcher" you would want people to be treated be at the very best cancer hospitals like the texas medical center in houston or mayo clinic in Minnesota. If you are just looking for a biotech startup and to get rich , plenty of red state places like research triangle area in Raleigh Durham and Duke University are one of the largest biotech areas in the country and of course horrible middle America places like Minnesota only happens to be one of the largest in the country for research and devices and employing people in the life sciences sector
