Fun to watch...though bad for us all. The first act of the incoming Republicans in the house is to disembowel a relativelly weak Ethics Organization...against the wishes of their leadership.

Nice to know that nothing has changed. Republicans and ethics don't match up...

Default Swamp Alert: With No Warning, House GOP guts Independent Ethics Office

What manner of slime are some red districts sending to DC? Ryan and McCarthy both oppose this.

Quote:
WASHINGTON — House Republicans, overriding their top leaders, voted on Monday to significantly curtail the power of an independent ethics office set up in 2008 in the aftermath of corruption scandals that sent three members of Congress to jail.

The move to effectively kill the Office of Congressional Ethics was not made public until late Monday, when Representative Robert W. Goodlatte, Republican of Virginia and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced that the House Republican Conference had approved the change. There was no advance notice or debate on the measure.

If they really wanted to they could tighten ethics laws and put tighter restrictions on congressmen once they leave office preventing them and others from lobbying activity. I don't see that this office had a lost of teeth.

Note-they did this as a secret anonymous vote (big surprise) behind closed doors. Even renamed it to the "Office of Congressional Complaint Review". At least they got that right, no more ethics there with the GOP in charge.

I presume you mean "lots", and while they were very very limited, this removes even that. The fact that this was done at all is insanely shameful and concerning. It shows EXACTLY the kind of government those on the right have chosen, and elected.

What is with all these nonsense threads by one person?

Why should they keep pretending to give a damn? It's not like Prez-elect Twitler has any scruples.

Ah, a "nonsense" thread is one that provides facts that you do not like. Got it.

As for the OP, this is one of 3 threads on the subject. 1 was by me, and I marked it as duplicate, the other is further down the thread, and was made by someone else.
