You can't drain the swamp of ethics because there is none.

Actually I think it does work, on its own - which is why the House is trying to de-fang it.

The problem is it has no legal authority. They have to hand off its findings to the House Ethics Committee, which is where it gets dicey.

But where the OCE is good is that it does get the info... we just need to publicize what is handed off and put pressure on the House to act.

It was due mostly to some rather bad publicity from congressional districts.

The committee was put in place as a reaction to Tom Foley, Jefferson and Jack Abramoff. I hear complaints from both parties but no specifics,

I'm sure that didn't help.

It is clear that members of the House have a reason to make trump the reason they desisted on this.

Of course, trump only suggested delaying the action, and did not say that it wasn't a good idea - just that it wasn't the right time to pursue that.

No he didn't.

They started getting crap about it immediately. Started building the night before and got worse the next day. Social media picked it up.The phones started ringing from constituents. Then Trump tweeted. I think they used him as an excuse because they were already getting dumped on by the public and the media.

And let's face it--the last thing Trump wants is attention drawn to ethics problems when he has so many conflicts of interest issues.

The Dems started in on the 'Drain the Swamp' hypocrisy the night before and we know how thin-skinned Trump is about his slogans. How credible can a guy be tweeting about 'ethics' when his own cabinet and businesses lean towards the corrupt?

The only people scared of him know how dangerous he is.

"...But House Republicans aren't necessarily jumping to offer the president-elect credit for their head-spinning reversal on the issue, which came hours after Trump tweeted his criticism Tuesday morning....

"I don't think that a lot of people believed that the press would be as bad as it was," Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) told reporters..."

And some House Republicans say they just weren't prepared for the media storm that hit them when news of the rules change broke..."

He shut **** down. He is a multitude of unethical all on his own and even just one look at his cabinet puts any claims of ethical to rest.

What lawmakers went to jail because of OCE? I think none.
