EBT isn't limited to SNAP.

We need to revert back to food stamps where you get the staples in exchange for the stamps, even if it's electronically.

They shouldn't be "buying" anything; they should be receiving staple goods. If they sell those, oh well.

Natalie, unhealthy and obese people also don't live to old ages and thus strongly supplement the social security pension etc. that you are more likely to draw from for a long long time.

With that said, if you're going to make a facist rant about controlling people whose lifestyles you don't like then you should at least be informed enough to recognize ALL of the things that should be adjusted for in order to be "equitable" in your eyes.

Have you ever wondered why there are so many sugary products in grocery stores and the country has such a high rate of diabetes and obesity?

Because sugary drinks is the only thing people can drink? I don't have any issue finding affordable drinks that isn't loaded with sugar. If this causes a few people to also make that change, then there is some good that would come from this tax.

Why don't we just make it illegal and throw people in jail who drink it.
I wouldn't call it a huge tax, though if that tax is too much for you, then it might be in your best interest to skip the sugary drink because you clearly can't afford it. Also, when people in this country suffer from diabetes and obesity, you end up having to pay for that too. Paying for people to be healthy is much, much cheaper in the long run.

Probably the same reason why we don't make tobacco illegal and throw people in jail for it.....granted we still have marijuana be illegal and people getting thrown in jail over it....so we obviously don't have a perfect system right now. But a tax on sugary drinks is realistic, throwing people in jail over sugary drinks seems absurd.

What about the people that can control themselves?

Are you hinting at a tax only for people of size?

They too would pay the same tax when buying a sugary drink in Philly. Though someone who can control themselves probably doesn't bother to drink soda to begin with.

It seems that Americans believe that they have a God-given right to develop Type II diabetes.
Of course, they don't want to pay for their own health insurance to cover their treatment either but that's a different thread.

As for the tax, who cares?
Where is it written that soda shouldn't be taxed or that it should be cheap?
Soda is not a staple nor is it a necessity.

Don't like the tax, don't buy it.

You'll be doing yourself a favor in the long run.

Maybe it would be a good idea to teach Americans how diabetes happens before they actually get diabetes.
Agreed.

Of course, if poor people stop buying soda with their food stamps, people couldn't get all high and mighty about how they shouldn't be buying that stuff with food stamps.
Where's the fun in that?
