They were a-holes. If you can't see the problem in the billionaire class being able to use the legal system to take revenge on people saying things they don't like, I guess that's that.
There was no lack of media outfits breathlessly reporting on the birth certificate hoax - a criminal allegation directed at the President - and you know that everybody in this thread would have had a screaming fit if there had been any hint of President Obama "destroying" any of those.
There's a magnificent double standard being paraded right now.

The media is part of that ruling class, the reason people use the term the fourth estate for the mainstream media is because its a part of the ruling class, the first estate (clergy) and the second estate (monarchy) was ruling during the french revolution, and the mainstream media is as corrupt and dishonest as the clergy and monarchy was during the french revolution

The mainstream media was never involved in obama birther rumors, they treated obama like a god. the media is now like a propaganda arm for the democratic party, like pravda. Even collusion in debates!
The media remained cheerleaders of Obama from the disasters in syria ,rise of isis, and a terrible foreign policy, massive leaks in the state department, bengazi, a stagnant economy, rise of black live matters,riots , increasing racial divide, terrible corruption in immigration and hud and welfare, the most Americans on food stamps and welfare in history and on and on but the mainstream media treats him like a success story.
The weird thing is they even treated obamas final speech like mccarthur or Washington's farewell address, and Obama has left the democrats in the worse shape they have been in for 100 years.
They lost both chambers of congress,presidency, major supreme court nominations . During Obama's eight years , the Democrats have lost more House, Senate, state legislative and governors seats than under any other president
That is the accurate analysis. They are doing it to themselves by being dishonest and people recognize dishonesty in media and government having seen so much of it.

Proving intent is sometimes hard to do. Ask Comey. He couldn't prove Billiary's intent.
Goes back to the ol song, "I Didn't Know the Gun Was Loaded". All a defendant has to do is say we thought it was true at the time.
If it were easy to sue for being defamed or slandered, we would need twice as many lawyers, G-d forbid, and more courts. Buzzed can get around any libel lawsuit.
Can you sue a sitting POTUS? Can a POTUS sue somebody? He would never have time for a deposition.

Why don't you take a look at Breitbart and count the instances of "traitor" and "usurper" - actual accusations of actual crimes, not rumors of sexual impropriety. Would you have meekly accepted a lawsuit on Obama's part with the intent to shutdown Breitbart? We both know the answer to that.
This energetic insistence on silencing people who states the unpopular viewpoint - let's just say there is unpleasant historical precedence.
