I think Trump will either destroy or badly damage the Republican party in the coming months and years.

Demographically, the U.S. is already majority Democrat. Republicans win because a lot of Liberals don't vote due to being too lazy or too comfortable with things. Trump has made Liberals more uncomfortable than any politician in recent memory. In addition, Trump has made a lot of Republicans uncomfortable.

In some ways its a lose/lose situation for Republicans in the next 2-4 years. The fact that they have the majority makes it impossible for them to blame Democratic polities for anything "bad" that happens. In addition.. they are now forced to either push forward with doomed Republican policies that will fail a large portion of society (women, minorities, gays, etc.) OR they have to support some Liberal policies which will make them look like liars and hypocrites and turn off their base.

I don't see how Republicans can come out on top in the next two years.

Trump might ultimately be good for Liberals in the long run.

Liberals and the Left are the reason Trump got elected.

Not happening, no matter how much you wish it happens. The party that's being badly damaged/destroyed right now is the Democrats. The fact Jehmu Greene or Keith Ellison could potentially be your party's chairman says all we need to know.

Trump is off to a good start in hurting the republican party. Just like the pundits and establishment predicted....

The election handed the republican party the most power they have had in close to 100 years. Terrible start for Trump.

It is their turn to make it or break it for good- they neither get on the ball and actually pass some bills and invent some solutions or the country fails - again- Obama picked up a mess no matter what you say-- HE did not create it -

but as God and I know-people never learn!

The Tea Party did more to damage them than Trump did because most people don't view Trump as a Republican. He's non political because both Republicans and Democrats have principles and platforms; you may agree or disagree with them but they at least have structure. Trump has no values or morals or platform so he could never truly be a member of a political party. That requires some sort of teamwork, cooperation and vision, things which are completely beyond his grasp.

Or...

Trump is going to prove what lots of people regardless their party affiliation fear most, that he will blunder his way into leading America down a path harmful if not dangerous for all Americans in general. Regardless which party is harmed sooner or later, all of America is harmed when either side becomes too dominant and/or weak ineffective or unproductive. Though I am a Progressive, I worried about how badly the GOP was doing after Obama beat Romney. That weakness of leadership and direction is what gave rise to Trumpism.

Not true that "a lot of Liberals don't vote due to being lazy or too comfortable with things." Not as true as other reasons liberals and lots of others are apathetic about the political system. Hard to feel inspired when it seems there is so much evidence special interests rule no matter what. Right? And then when that sentiment boils over and/or keeps people from voting altogether, sh*t tends to happen. Trump happens.

I'm curious to see how all the Republicans in Congress will deal with Trump on many levels. Obviously they will want to tap into the general want for change, but the problem for them is ultimately the fact that Republicans and Trump need to define what that change is to be, and take some responsibility.

In any case, if so many conservatives are comfortable blaming Obama/Democrats for all that is bad and giving Trump/Republicans credit for all that is good, then it doesn't really matter too much what happens. All we need to expect is the usual propaganda to further muddy the political waters and voter's understanding as to what works and what doesn't, who to credit and who to blame.

Conservatives are right. Liberals are wrong. Any more political understanding not required...

The pendulum will swing hard after this mess.

Ironically? Trump is a RINO.
