That must vary by state since I've had my emails FOIed and I had no recourse to releasing them. I had no clue what the individual was looking for because his name never came up.
FOIA does not apply to elected officials of the federal government, including the President,
Vice President, Senators, and Representatives. Additionally, components of the
Executive Office of the President that exist solely to advise the President are not subject to
FOIA. FOIA does not apply to the Judiciary Branch.
