France's minister for women's rights said Friday she found it "surprising and shocking" that controversial Franco-Polish filmmaker Roman Polanski was chosen to preside over France's equivalent of the Oscars.
The award-winning director of "Chinatown" and "Rosemary's Baby" has been wanted in the US for almost four decades for the rape of a 13-year-old girl in Los Angeles.
Are we supposed to be discussion the French film awards or the thing about Meryl Streep? The fact that you added that latter in at all suggests that this is why you made this thread, becasue why engage in politics when you can do low brow level **** like bring up something obviously irrelevant about an actress. Yes, she cheered for Roman Polanski. Though it was for a movie he made and there were hundreds of others cheering as well. You don't bring them up because the issue with Meryl Streep isn't about her praising a convicted rapist but that she went after Trump and she's not allowed to get into politics or something.
As for the film awards, I have no opinion. He makes good films and that's why he was chosen. He also sexually assaulted a young girl and this is wrong. A question as to what should define a person is brought up here I suppose. Does a single bad thing make a person wholly bad? Does time need to pass? What's the standard? Regardless, he's a controversial choice but their logic for choosing him is sound.
It's not about France. It's about hypocrisy from the loony left. Streep in this case. Why are you involved in this thread when you don't understand what it's about?

" Roman Polanski a 'shocking' pick for French awards ceremony host: minister"
I don't find it shocking. The industry in France has downplayed the severity of his crime for years. After all, his achievements as a film director are just so darn brilliant. It's sick, but it's reality.
