Funny, this will go nowhere. Payment for service rendered is not a gift, and is not restricted by the constitution.

Default Trump faces lawsuit over receipt of foreign cash

Quote:
There will be no honeymoon for President Donald Trump. Instead, on Monday, during the start of his first full week in the White House, he’s being slapped with a lawsuit by a group of prominent ethics attorneys.

The lawsuit, expected to be the first of many, will argue that Trump is violating the Constitution by allowing his company, the Trump Organization, to continue accepting payments from foreign governments. Trump refused to surrender ownership of his company before taking the oath of office, instead allowing his children to assume control over business operations.

This kind of stuff will be par for the course throughout whatever amount of time the birther-in-chief manages to remain in office. I don't see how he even was eligible to run in the first place being he has such a nefarious history.

if owning "stock" or some other investment were illegal, then federal employees would be unable to own stocks, mutual funds, or any other investment that 'spreads its money around' to various sectors. To believe a person gives up all rights afforded to "normal" citizens upon ascension to presidency is folly.

All you have to do is pay attention to how this plays out , and you will soon have your answers. There were just a couple of Attorneys on NPR, they represent the group that filed suit this morning C.R.E.W.). You may not think Trump is doing anything wrong, and Trump may feel the same, but we will soon find out in the courts.

Trump could have taken care of this with a simple one page document, but he refuses to do it the right way.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. His lawyers are trying to say that only profits
are gifts but the ethics lawyers are saying any payment is considered an emolument.

Could lead to some interesting discovery at the very least.

Sadly, you have been misinformed once again.

The Clinton Foundation did not close.

The Clinton Global Initiative, one program of the Clinton Foundation, was closed.

When Clinton won the Democratic nomination, the decision was made to close this program to avoid potential conflicts of interest such as this.

Whether something will come of this lawsuit remains to be seen. But there really is no question that Trump is in violation of the Constitution he just took an oath to protect and defend.

Emolument means payment, not profit.

If the court grants them standing, discovery should be very interesting.

Emolument: Payment made for work that has been done. Refers to payments made to millers for grinding corn as "emolere" means "grind out."

If the court grants them standing, discovery should be very interesting.
