I'm not advocating for offshoring. I'm pointing out that Trump is selling this as the miracle cure for our economy and it's not going to do a whole lot in relation to the size of our problem.

I don't think so. You are saying modern factories don't need many workers but Mexico is going to war to keep them there. It's like people who say walls don't work but are fighting tooth and nail to stop it.

I don't want the walls as there are far easier and cheaper solutions.

Skilled worker can mean different things. If the skill doesn't involve working with the modern robotics it's not likely to help that individual though they're more likely than some to have the ability to train up for it.

The unskilled workers get so much attention because they vastly outnumber skilled workers. And many of them have zero chance of going beyond that and when they're unemployed they are a serious burden on taxpayers and the criminal justice system.

Sure. I never said it was bad to bring them in. But now find another million or two million more.

I'm pretty sure you have seen the counter arguments. Large fines for businesses that hire illegals and cut off benefits.

You do know Mexico is a country in which a very tiny percentage of the population has virtually everything and the rest virtually nothing. Those who run the country are going to protect their profitable income sources. NAFTA hasn't really benefited the average Mexican too much.

Which is an excellent reason for scrapping it. Much like here, these agreements are written to benefit the few.
