The reason for that, is because the term "immigrant" has been used, incorrectly, to describe illegal aliens. This was done in an attempt to lessen the impact of the understood meaning that they are illegally in the country. What it actually did was taint the term "immigrant" itself, to include criminal activity into its definition.

Why were all these legal immigrants scrambling to hide and lock their doors?
I've noticed that a lot of right-wingers on this site seem to think there's an illegal/citizen binary. There are a lot of people in this country who fall in between those statuses, and they are protected by the constitution.
Its the left wingers who think all Mexican Americans are illegal, hence the headline. Why would legal Hispanics care about ICE? About half of US Border Patrol are Hispanic.
