We should legalize pot but it is problematic at the Fed level because the US is a signatory to at least two international drug control treaties and we would be in violation of those. It is a easier to just not enforce Fed law for the time being. But it does put the pot business in a bind since any money earned is still officially money from a criminal enterprise and is subject to forfeiture. Banks won't touch it.
