So, let's look at history. If we build this wall to keep the unwashed masses out, how long will it be before it is used to keep us IN?

They already charge you to leave or return to the US by private boat. Now they are talking a border tax. The next step is "exit visas" and needing govt permission to travel.

Our descent into tyranny is taken one small step at a time.

If I fly my plane to the islands I have to pay a user fee. Your landing is not ordinarily staffed.

Much ado about nothing.

Keep us out? Really? I don't see any people trying to break out of the US to mexico. Unless you are a criminal.

That's true today. But what about next month, or in twenty years, when the Ministry of Thought decrees you a criminal for posting on CD and puts out a fatwah on you?

At what level does freedom fail?

Well, as far as Mexico and Canada it's always been hard to "get in" and "stay in." Mexico will kick you out in a second if you are illegal, even if you have a whole family there, a business, and help everyone you meet. I've seen it happen to long over stayers there.

So, I doubt it.

You aren't factoring in those other countries we go, and how they already try to keep us out, unless we are wealthy of course.

The only walls that we will need to keep anybody in will be the walls of local jails and stockades for the failed Special Snowflakes who think they can't make their way (or simply refuse to try) with the de-industrialized economy and slimmed-down safety net which we will have no choice but to allow to evolve.

This is why millions of Americans who live closer to the gritty, grimy private sector voted for a new sheriff in town.

At what level does freedom fail?; At the point where overgrown children expect too much!

If you have basic life skills, and a reasonable attitude, you'll have no problems; it's easy to earn the basics in a fully-developed economy. But if you decide to sit down and pout, and block traffic while you whine for your participation trophy, a local Sheriff Joe will probably have some not-too-pleasant plans for you.

This is how the problem was addressed prior to (roughly) 1930, when higher rates of death for women created and perpetuated a large contingent of unattached, unskilled men who became "tramps" and vagrants. If the emerging patterns of employment in a de-industrialized, feminized, pansexual economy produce a new "undesirable" class, the problem isn't likely to be addressed with an iron hand, but it will be addressed nonetheless.

You already need government permission to travel or at least come back in when you leave. It's called a passport.

Not now, but if things get as bad as they could, "illegal immigration" could start happening the other direction.

Exactly. Look at Nazi Germany, when people escaped into Switzerland, or the US.
