This article is long with little substance. Even though this mainly influenced people who uses facebook it goes beyond:

"That included designing target audiences for digital ads and fund-raising appeals, modeling voter turnout, buying $5 million in television ads and determining where Mr. Trump should travel to best drum up support."

After analyzing and using psychological tactics, their efforts could influence democrats not to vote and republics to make sure they vote, the facebook data helped them do this more effectively.

The russian collusion is not convincing but the british-tech collusion looks like it could have made the difference.

Default Bannon and Russian connected Firm harvested and USED FB data

https://www.theguardian.com/news/201...ce-us-election

Lots of connections - firm owned by the Mercers (financiers of Bannon, Breitbart and much of the other right wing world). Russian researchers involved.

They (legally) gathered data for research..or under the guise of research, but were specifically disallowed from passing on the data. Instead, they used it for the Trump and Brexit elections.

Just this would have probably swung both elections...let alone all the other fake news and lies and Putin financed scheme.

It's a big deal. But most people probably won't understand it - some will, tho.

If you're stupid enough to vote you probably are stupid enough to believe that there are rules for such non-sense.

Liars and cheats. This seems like a common problem among Trumps circle.

This is just one of many schemes being investigated by Mueller.

Steve Bannon, the former White House chief strategist, had holdings in Cambridge Analytica worth between $1 million and $5 million as recently as April of this year, Bloomberg reported. Bannon, now back as the chairman of the pro-Trump media outlet Breitbart, hasn’t been publicly mentioned as a potential witness for or target of Russia investigators. He previously sat on the board of Cambridge Analytica.

Facebook data of 50M users exploited by Trump data firm, say reports; firm suspended

How it worked: by asking users to download a personality quiz app

Facebook said a British psychology professor and his firm, Global Science Research, legitimately gained access to the personal data of Facebook users while working on a personality prediction app, but the researcher violated Facebook’s rules by passing it on to Cambridge Analytica.

That firm was asked in December to turn over documents to special counsel Robert Mueller, as part of his investigation into collusion between the campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.
