I'm not sure if he's attended a funeral of a fallen soldier or not, but he's certainly met their coffins at the jet, and met with families.
This is one brave soldier. When President Trump starts meeting a C17 with 16-20 unfortunate servicemen, he will quickly find he cannot possibly personally attend their individual funerals.
Still a great gesture on his part though.
Person I quoted said how many funerals he attended. Challenge them to name one.
You know why you heard about Obama going to Dover on occasion.. I can find about 4 times during his 8 years he did it.. It's because there used to be a media blackout.. His first trip there, he lifted the blackout so that the press could see him there and he would have a good photo op.
Most of the troops who died during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were flown to Dover Air Force base in Delaware. And for most of the wars, those dignified transfers were off limits to the press. That changed in 2009, when President Obama lifted the media ban and paid a visit to Dover himself.
Look.. Presidents really probably shouldn't attend a soldier's funeral unless it's at the request of the family. It'd turn it into a circus pretty quick. Which is the last thing a funeral should be.
Trump is a disgrace. He is responsible for this SEALs death and that of the little girl. The operation had been under planning for two months and was not scheduled until January 28, the date of no moon in Yemen. But Trump couldn't wait to make a PR show of it and rushed the date resulting in a botched operation. Now he tries to make a media event of seeing the soldier returned home. Pathetic.
Are you unaware there's a press corp hanging out at the White House?
Obama had a small number of White House press with him every time he went to Dover unless there was objection from the family. A procedure put in place by the Pentagon under Obama.
I don't recall Obama or any other president going to soldiers funerals. That would be impractical and probably not desired by most families.
Its the right thing to do and its the right thing for the American people to know that the President goes to offer the families respect and condolences on behalf of the nation.
The people who are picking at this and criticizing....most without even knowing what they are talking about...are revolting and imo should probably take a break and do some self reflection.
