It's jointly run by the CIA, but it's on Aussie land. Without Pine Gap, the global surveillance network loses it's ability to see places like China. If Trump gets sh*tty enough, Aussies always have the option to take their cricket bat and ball, along with our surveillance station, and stay home.

- and we were to take refugees from Costa Rica - that IIRC were going to be accepted by the US. It's not like we are trying to get out of taking refugees.

It's mind blowing any of his supporters would be ok with this. Australia has been one of our closest allies for decades, and he literally just accused of Australia of wanting to send us terrorists, and then hung up on the PM.
Trump is a sociopath and needs to be stopped. This is such dangerous territory to be alienating all our allies like this.
Israel is also one of our closest closet allies and Obama treated them like dog crap. Do we really think every phone call with foreign leaders is chummy and nice? I bet Obama had some heated discussions yet of course, the AP would never seek to publish the transcript of his calls. Remember when the mic is not on, these wonderful leaders cuss and talk crap like Biden being caught saying "it's a big *** deal".
