It has nothing to do with "getting our way". Any other republican would have been accepted. Yes, of course people would be disappointed but the president would have been accepted. Trump is a narcissist who can't handle criticism. And that is very dangerous.

Obama was a U.S. Senator and a successful author. After his 2004 speech at the Democratic National Convention the book sales soared. He was also a Constitutional lawyer with a degree from Harvard Law. Michelle Obama is also a Harvard Law graduate. Do you honestly think they were poor?
BTW, the POTUS only earns $400,000 a year. His Nobel Peace prize, which was $1.4 million, was donated to charity. I read comments like this all the time on this forum and it's as if people just make up things without doing any research.
Unlike Trump, Obama actually DID release his tax returns, so we know he earned at least what was reported on them. He earned millions BEFORE he ever ran. I guess you never bothered to learn any of this. I can probably find many links on Google, but I am pretty sure one of his tax returns from previous years showed he earned more than $1.2 million.

Obamas earned their money through salaries, speaking fees, and book royalties. When he was elected president, they invested the bulk of their portfolio in plain vanilla, low-yield U.S. Treasury bonds. This avoided any any possibility of conflicts of interests.
