Watch some of the top gear shows, one episode in particular "the boys" went to China (c2013/14?) and tested some of the cars. They said that they "looked just like BRAND HERE" and were obviously poorly cloned imitations.

Perhaps that is what Mexican market can afford.

Remember that Japanese Cars were also cheap and regarded as poor performance cars...

What does this have to do with Trump and his policies ? If China wants into an automotive market, all they have to do is what the Japanese did here when they started selling vehicles here in the 60's. The government will subsidize the Chinese automakers and sell their SUV's into what ever country they can for less then anyone, not just the US automakers.

Just like all the other Chinese products. This isn't anything new. Once again proving , that unless we in the US want to live like a third world country, we can't compete on a global level. Companies where getting along fine in the 50's, selling vehicles here , and producing them here. If another country want a US auto, they paid dearly for it. Then greed kicked in and the politicians worked hand in hand with the corporations and expanded globally, both for sales and for the cheap labor.

Donald Trump"s idiotic trade policies are shortsighted and detrimental to our growth.

212 million is peanuts... Those must be some really chintzy and tiny SUVs...

So The deal was set up on a hunch? because in 2015 that's all it was even every reputable Poll showed Hillary Clinton as winning the election but somehow they knew it would be Trump I don't buy it.

Now that makes more sense. Regardless of Trump, Bernie or the populace, no foreign automaker is going to open a factory in the US or in the Western Hemisphere when their currently is no market for Chinese cars in the US. They are opening that plant to get a foothold in the Latin American auto market primarily.
