well, you can't stop the Chinese from making cars in Mexico. Good for them.

but you can add border tax on their imports. Nothing wrong with that, either.

Who says Americans need any foreign cares? what is wrong with Ford?

+1. Trump is on the verge of setting off an economic disaster in the U.S. -- and that shouldn't be a surprise, look how many of his businesses ended in failure. Trump Univ., Trump Airlines, Trump Steaks, Trump casinos in Atlantic City, etc., etc.

The rubes in the Rust Belt who bought Trump's snake oil are going to be so disappointed when those promised new factory jobs never show up...

The fact that it is a "global" market assumes on it's face that there is someone else to sell to. Yes, we are large, but India and China are much bigger markets. As they become more advanced, we will be a very small market in comparison.

The U.S. has a population of 321 Million people. South America has a total population of 371 Million. Taken as a whole, it is a bigger market. So, why do they need us again?
India has 1.25 billion people , yet has 18 vehicles per 1000 people...USA has 797 vehicles per 1000 people

Middle class in Mexico is not equal to middle class in the US. They do get paid much less and there is a lot of automation. Do you think that's a conspiracy?

No one is saying the US shouldn't keep our jobs, but when companies start competing with foreign businesses for global market space, they do have to compete. It's hard to compete with labor costs 100% more and a government that wasn't friendly to business.

Free trade deals are good, but combine that with anti-business regulations and it's not good. That's what happened. Even then, US exports have increased significantly in the last 8 years. We went from $1 trillion in exports to $1.5 trillion in exports.

Americans don't need foreign cars. BUT American car manufacturers need to be able to sell cars to the rest of the world to prosper. Is this so hard to grasp?

Businesses proper by GROWING their markets and selling more. Everyone in the U.S. already owns a car; the real opportunities lie in emerging markets where people are just becoming able to afford to buy them. It's not about making cheaper cars to sell here as much as it is about making competitive cars to sell everywhere else.

Exactly my point. There is much bigger opportunity in India in the future than there is here.
