The head of the FCC was Tom Wheeler. He was a black hat lobbyist that found redemption and became a knight in shining armor.
What really changed Tom's mind is hard to know. Did 1 million request to protect consumers do it? Did he just not want to be "that guy"? Who knows. But bless Tom, he stood up protected consumers.
Trump has replaced Tom Wheeler with Ajit Pai. Ajit is a Cable industry shill, he is openly in their pocket and has repeatedly stated he thinks Net Neutrality stinks. He will kill it as he has promised to many times.
Ajit was directed to kill consumer owned and controlled cable boxes. Ajit, hated the whole plan and signed it's death warrant with glee..... Tom Wheeler worked very hard to get this deal for consumers, it was not perfect but it would have shifted power to consumers allowing them to choose to buy their own boxes, and avoid cable rental fees which mount up fast...
TRUMP just SCREWED the average American family that has any type of "cable"... Trump put corporations, and wall street profit ahead of his voters.

consumers are paying about $230 a year on average, that mean that some pay less but some pay more.
This is only one part of what is happening. Pai is now running the FCC , Trump appointed him. Pai does not support net neutrality, he killed the consumer cable box plan and he believes in limited regulation.
A year or two ago TOM WHEELER blocked cell carrier consolidation. That led to T mobile lower prices and forcing other to do so.
T Mobile will now be gobbled up by the big players (with Pai at the helm of the FCC there is nobody to stop them), allowing V and ATT to again increase prices and slow investment.

fact is fact, I could think it is a donkey it does not change that PAI (appointed by Trump) has an openly stated and frequently repeated desire to roll back net neutrality.
If you would like to open a debate as to the merits of neutrality, or as to what it is or is not, feel free, but my point stands 100%
