How many failing school districts that are failures but ran by people with a doctorate in education do I need to post to prove that having an advanced degree and decades of experience doesn't equate to success?
Almost all districts, "great" and "failing," are run by people with doctorates or other advanced degrees in education. You do know the real reason why the D.C. schools perform so poorly, don't you?
I respect real business people like Kochs, Cuban, and others who acctually built great businesses....not some wrinklly old lady who inherited her money
OMG! I wish people would stop calling a 59 year old woman an "old lady."
I wouldn't care if she were 35 or 65, as long as she had the qualifications to get the job done. However, 59 is not old. Today in Ingles, I took out my cheaters to read the ingredients on a label and joked about getting old to the other customer in the aisle. She was 81 and belongs to a local hiking group. Bernie Sanders is 75 and I doubt if most of us could have kept up with him during the primaries.
Public schools do this too. When kids miss too much school due to absenteeism, they either send the kid to a " special school" or arrest the parents.
On rare occasions, sure, but not at anywhere near the same rate that the "best" charter schools do it. Some of these schools/charter chains have it down to science and have created an aura where they lead people to believe that they are performing miracles. Nope.
This is a questionable pick by Trump. She is invested in the student loan/collections industry and is thus HOSTILE to the best interests of student loan debtors. You can't "both" have interests in student loan/collections companies *and* claim to be "for the best interests" of college students at the same time
As a former student loan debtor myself (paid off now, thankfully) I totally sympathize with those who are still carrying this debt.
I guess we'll see how this one plays out. I caught some of her confirmation grilling and she honestly didn't sound very knowledgeable at all regarding the job
She is fine - my father knows her well and likes her (and says she's a very nice lady).
Calling her unqualified for the position doesn't mean we "hate" her. As another poster mentioned in this thread, I'm not qualified to fly a 747...that doesn't mean one should hate me if I'm up for that position. But it does mean I shouldn't get it.
Why don't the normal rules of a job interview apply here?
For 62 million, they didn't matter to elect the President of the United States, so why should this be any different?
OK I get it that a lot of you don't like Betsy, but why are so many wanting to hang on to the current education system we have. How many of you really think its great the way it is?
It's fine the way it is. The issue is that many families and students are unwilling or unequipped to take full advantage of the opportunities they have.

President Trump should made a trade deal with the Top 5 international countries in education. We get their good teachers who speak English, they get protection.
