Dueling Claims on Crime Trend
Your chart doesn't show 2015. Largest percent increase in 45 years. It's confusing, murder rate, percentage increase in murder rate, or murder rate increase... he said it wrong. Stop splitting hairs.

The fact is... biggest murder rate increase percentage wise from previous year since 1971. The murder rate increased bigly in 2015. That was his point.

Trump could walk on water today ... the liberals would laugh and say he can't swim.

Fair enough. Let's see if he corrects himself or doubles down.

Highest murder rate increase in 45 years. He forgot to say increase. Jeez.
Increase measured as a percentage, and that's about as useless as statistics get - but it evokes emotions, for people who aren't good with numbers.

Like when Mao pointed out that tractor production in China had increased by 100%. The actual increase was from one tractor per year to two, but damn if it didn't sound good.

I'm not anti Trump but I think he needs to learn to control his communications.

Trump falsely claims U.S. murder rate is at

President Trump continued his war on facts Tuesday, inaccurately claiming that the nation's murder rate was the highest it's been in nearly 50 years.

Trump was holding a listening session with county sheriffs from across the U.S. at the White House Tuesday morning when he made the untrue statement.

Trump said that the U.S. murder rate was the highest it had been "in 45 to 47 years" — a claim he had also made on the campaign trail numerous times.

And, the national murder rate is actually only the highest it's been since 2009
He was telling the county sheriffs from across the U.S. that the murder rate was the highest it's been "in 45-47" years?

You sure these weren't all sheriffs from the back woods of West Virginia who have no idea about murder rates states and the internet and so forth?

Was there clapping and cheering?

X raises your risk of cancer by 400%.

OMG everyone freak out about x right!

<best valley girl impression>I mean, 400%! Everyone is going to get cancer 4 times now!

Now If I tell you x has a .00000000000000000123 chance to cause cancer, 400% increase is nothing.

Problem is, most of America has no freaking clue what so ever about how to math. Including our President and the monkey that writes his speeches. They are simply preying on fear of the dumb so when he says that the parrots just repeat "Oh crime is bad we see it on the Internets every day so it must be bad, world is going to hell."

I believe trump repeated that claim multiple times on the campaign trail. I don't believe it is 'one off mistake'.

Sure, whatever man Highest 1 year increase would render his comment meaningless. He meant exactly what he said, which is to make things look worse than they are.
