I would be humiliated and furious as a US citizen if I had to give something so personal to a foreign govt.

Then boycott the country & go somewhere else. If you choose to migrate to another country then you have to follow the rules. If you cant then there are other countries with good opportunities & sensitive people. We are horrible, racist people who dont put people's feelings & social media above homeland security. You can find plenty of other nations in the world where they will respect an immigrant's privacy & feelings as they are so much more important than life of their own people. Saudi is a great example:

Being a fan of big guv, I'm suprised the o.p. isn't championing this policy proposal. Maybe if it required existing US citizens to provide personal passwords to their local party headquarters, they'd be more supportive?

Then why dont you move to Saudi Arabia since you love their tough, no nonsense approach?

Social Media by its very nature is not private. The government can and will demand this information directly from the source if they want it badly enough (FB et al), you think the previous administration didn't do this kind of stuff?
