I think the saying "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" applies here.
And I really doubt Trump ever said that "Snowden should be executed." I think they can just say that he said or did anything and people would wilkfully believe it.

Trump said Snowden should be executed and I agree. But Trump says a lot of things and then changes his mind when the rubber hits the road. More likely is that he will find a place for Snowden in his extended swampinet.
A lot of Trump's RWNJs are big fans of Snowden and Trump knows this. So I'm sure Trump will change his mind on Snowden's execution if he feels like it benefits him (Trump) to do so.
