I doubt dems are worried about long term presidential elections. Trump was a series of unfortunate events that lead to apathy/lack of turnout from polls that made it sound like Clinton was a sure thing (why bother to vote?), to the Russians and FBI, to Bernie, to Clinton herself. They lost a couple states they should have won by a relative handful of votes. The bigger concern and one they seem to be neglecting is local politics. It matters. One thing though, dems have never looked so angry and motivated since the civil rights movement - women especially. We'll see where it leads.

Because they know that the backlash for Trump will come in 2018 and while it may not overtake all offices, it'll seriously cut into their numbers.

Because there are plenty of moderate Rs and Independents who will find themselves presented with the opportunity to vote for a moderate Dem for a Senate or House seat and they'll quietly do just that.

Add to that the Dems who do not usually vote who are disgusted with Trump and Congress and you will see some changes in 2018, no matter whether districts are gerrymandered or not.

Even among Republicans, the old school, super conservative ways are dying out.

Most of the states the Dems have to defend are places Trump won and by a strong amount

Other than someone like Joe Manchin, I can't think of a moderate Dem

Is Keith Ellison a moderate dem? Is this a moderate Dem?

" Democrats have been keeping pressure on Trump, but are they doing anything to address the reasons they lost? "

Listen to them, most don't really know why they lost. They may think they do, but they don't. If they are that clueless, they can never problem solve.

Civil rights movement? And are you talking about the 53% of white women who voted Trump? A ranting Madonna and Ashley Judd doesn't represent all women. Seriously are you libs insane?

The people demonstrating and the people responsible for formulating strategy for the party are two very separate groups.

3. Keeping the pressure on by showing up at town halls, offices, and other events where the Senators and Representatives are appearing.
4. Calling their phone lines every single day about at least one issue we care about.
5. Writing letters, emailing, signing petitions (these are less effective, but they are also being done)
6. Talking to our neighbors and others who never were involved in politics before to get a grass roots resistance going.

You have no idea what is happening all across this country. People are angry and also scared a bit by the authoritarian direction the country is headed.

All of these things you listed here are being done to salvage what's left of the Democratic party and try to keep their philosophy relevant.

None of the above addresses why they lost:

Abandoning the little guy (middle class blue collar Americans) for identity politics.

This is true. Those demonstrating are actually accomplishing something.

Their philosophy is relevant. The problem is hardly any of them actually practice it.

Philosophy probably wasn't the right word/concept for me to use there..

Ideology was closer to what I was getting at, because their ideology has changed in the last 30 years.

There's a huge difference between Bill Clinton circa 1991 and Obama/Hillary/Bernie and BLM today.
