In the last twenty or thirty years American mindset has changed. At one time we told pedestrians that they were responsible for their own safety. After all; they usually loose the battle against moving vehicles. Today, if a pedestrian is even coming close to a crosswalk; they want motorist to stop - the pedestrian always has the right-of-way.
I have one little town close to me that has 'stop for pedestrian' signs all over the place. Many times, while driving through this town; I have pedestrians that don't even look to see if cars are coming and simply walk across the road in front of us. I am not saying that motorist should treat real life like a video game and try to 'score' points. But I do think that pedestrians should be proactive in their own safety; especially since they always loose to the vehicles. I just feel that we have moved away from personal responsibility. I am still waiting for our justice department to charge protestors, that block any highway that leads to a fatality; with accessory to murder or one of the lessor charges.
Finally some sensible legislation that helps Americans with jobs get to work. If a protester is forming a human chain over an interstate bridge, you must honk three times but then you can floor it. No charges will be filed which puts the power back into people's hands.
