So are you denying that the Department of Homeland Security's spokeswoman Gillian Christensen lied when he said a memo dated Jan 25 suggesting the national guards could be used to round up illegal immigrants was considered and dis-guarded? No news outlet said the troops would be deployed. How is it a lie to say the memo existed when it actual does? And by the way, the memo wasn't reported on widely by the mainstream media.

Bentlebee, and a few others on here are not only drinking the kool aide, they are trying to sell it as well.

Newsprint and magazines are not doing as well as they once did because of one thing, electronic media. It has zero to do with Trump, although his minions look for any shred of something just to hang onto.

We let them have their fun, it humors them.

I trust my local paper a hellava lot more to tell me the truth than my two senators and congressman.

The conservatives in my town think it is a communist paper. Even if it were, I get more truth from the paper than from Cruz and Cronyn. At least i know the paper is a business that has to make money to survive.
Cruz, Cornyn and Culbertson will never have enough to be satisfied.

Don't be so quick to believe everything Trump says. He is a chronic liar. He wants to discredit the media because then he doesn't have to answer their questions. Instead screams FAKE NEWS. The real Fake news is on FOX.

I don't know about anybody else, but the first thing I read in the daily paper is the comics. Then I read Dear Abby and Heloise, then the opinion page(s). They are often nearly as funny as the comics, since the editor is pretty much a raging liberal. The letters to the editor are often pretty good, too. They even print mine when I write to them.
The national news is often a rehash of what I saw on CBS news the night before, as is the local news. Sometimes the print version has a little more detail than the tv version.
In the summer there are the garage sale ads that make for an entertaining few hours sometimes.
There is a local cosmetic surgeon that writes a monthly column that is quite entertaining.
I stopped the paper when they raised the subscription rate. I missed it, so when they called and offered me a special rate to renew, I accepted the lower rate. I'm glad I did.

Newspaper a requirement if you have a puppy or hamster.

I stopped getting the paper when my coonhound died as she would bring the paper in every morning. Bad memories.

The NYT was the best paper ever as it gave perspective on every article... now the NYT is an arm of the government propaganda machine, spewing character assassination, innuendo and creating articles from spurious comments.

I still have a newspaper subscription, because not all news can be distilled into a 30-second sound bite. I've lost patience with network news, which is either "infotainment" or panels of six people screaming at each other. No thanks. Newspapers aren't perfect by any means, but it's my preferred method for staying informed.

I don't know if that is actually the case, legally speaking. I'd certainly be interested to see how that'd play out...

The "right" leaning internet site, reported that she didn't report it on her tax return (true) and that she was some huge hypocrite. After reading several sites, I finally came across ONE site (I believe it was Reuters or AP directly) that stated that she didn't report the home equity loan because people are not required to report the home equity lines of credit, which it was. All the while, Trumpsters over here didn't bother with that part and went on and on about how she was the biggest liar, cheat, etc. when in fact she used the very same rules that allowed Trump get out of huge amounts of taxes. All legal on both sides. The right wing paper left out a very important fact.

Hmmm...did they just not know it? Was it intentional? Is all news fake? Or just one side? Have some newspapers come back to correct their mistakes and some not?
Let me see if I can answer this and make sense, it's still early and only on my second cup of coffee..... Given the scenario you posed, If a person like the ones you call "Trumpsters" ran with or commented on some news reported by a "right leaning" or any other site and it turned out to be false or partially false I tend to give some leeway or benefit of the doubt as they/we are NOT in the business of investigative reporting.
That is the domain of the actual news organizations that ARE in that business and they should be held to a way higher standard as that is their job. They have a duty to get it right and not run off half cocked or only put out part of the information available.
I would hope that most people would realize there is fake reporting/yellow journalism on BOTH sides of the isle.
It is their DUTY (MSM) to report fully and let the chips fall where they may, not to play to, or create a narrative that either benefits or damages the subject/person being reported on.
THAT is the sole domain of the person absorbing the news report.
As for correcting mistakes? If it's a regular citizen commenting on something they've read, all I can say is that it's MY policy to offer up a "Mia Culpa" and apologize for my error. When you're talking about actual news agencies, they should post a correction in the same way/place as they posted the original mistaken report.
If it was on the front page the correction should also be there, not buried on page 12 below the fold and next to the Obits. If it was a lead story on the 6:00 news then the correction should lead also, not buried in a 5 second blurb after the condom commercial and before the Viagra ad.
Hope that makes sense?
